US Stocks Decline As World Bond Prices Rise
Publish Date : 2019/08/14 - 11:58

US stocks fell more than 1% due to the political turmoil in Hong Kong and Argentina stemming from rising global bond prices.

The S & P500 fell for a second day as the treasury price surged as a result of last week's trading tensions, falling almost 5% below its average. Risk assets came under pressure after authorities closed Hong Kong’s airport and a Chinese official said the city was at a “critical juncture.” Argentina’s peso and equities sank after voters turned on the president in a primary vote.

Weakness in stocks led to strong demand for safe assets, which led to a 10-year Treasury yield falling by 10% and the Yen rising for a fourth day.
