Asian stocks are not engaged in a clear trend on Tuesday. Uncertainties in US-China trade talks as well as political issues in Hong Kong have had a major impact on investor sentiment.
The MSCI index rose just 0.04% today after a 1.2% drop yesterday.
Japan's Nikkei dithered either side of flat, and China's Shanghai lost 0.1%.
Investors' attention is focused on President Donald Trump's speech later today in case there was any new word on the China-US phase one trade deal. Donald Trump, who said on Friday that reports about US willingness to lift tariffs on Chinese goods was incorrect, hit the market.
One of Trump's good news for the market is his decision to delay a six-month tariff on EU cars.
Violence and political issues in Hong Kong have also led to a 2% decline in HSBC and StanCharts.
